The Alumni Leadership Development Conference proved to be a stimulating and challenging day that was well-received by the over 70 alumni and 30 guests who enjoyed the lunch and keynote address by Brad Whitehead of the Cleveland Foundation. Greg DiNarda (9th), vice president, Butler Wick & Company, related: "Brad Whitehead offered great information on how to make 'our region' great again." At left, Bob Lapp (4th), vice president of governmental affairs, The Timken Company and Wanda Young (17th), MicroBusiness Coordinator, Pyramid Training Services, agreed that Brad Whitehead was an excellent speaker.

2006 Stark County Local Government Leadership Academy

Pamela Bossart, Plain Township Trustee; Craig Chessler, Perry Township Trustee; Steven M. Meeks, Jackson Township Trustee; Robert A. Fonte (LSC 11th class) , Director, Stark County Park District; Frank Forchione, Prosecutor, City of Canton and Canton Mayor Janet Creighton exchange ideas at a Government Academy session.

 

Thirty people, two-thirds of whom are elected or appointed officials, particpated in the six-week course, designed to enhance the decision-making and leadership skills of individuals serving in or seeking public office. The Academy is a collaboration of The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Stark County, Stark County District Library and The Ohio State University Extension, in cooperation with the Stark Area Chambers of Commerce. Plaques commemorating completion of the course were presented in conjunction with the Alumni Leadership Deveopment Conference on Friday, March 31.
